Dental Implant Restorations

Are you missing one, several or all of your teeth? Wishing there was a treatment option to restore your missing smile permanently? At DeAngelis Family Dentistry we are proud to offer Dental Implant Restoration in Carlsbad, CA for our patients that are interested in permanently replacing their missing teeth and improving their smiles.

About Dental Implants

With dental implants, patients can avoid the adhesive pastes and worry of losing their teeth in the middle of a meal. Dental implants are designed to be permanent and are surgically attached, providing a strong, stable foundation. They are also designed to look, feel and function just like a natural tooth, requiring no dietary restrictions. The dental implant itself is actually comprised of three parts, including the implant post, the abutment, and the prosthetic tooth/teeth.

The Dental Implant

The dental implant post itself is actually used to replace missing teeth roots, serving as an artificial tooth root. Typically created using titanium, these posts are actually surgically attached to the jawbone below the gums, with only a tiny portion remaining visible.

The implant is attached by making a small incision in the gums prior to surgically inserting it into the bone. Once healed, the implant fuses with the supportive bone tissue, creating a stable support for your “tooth” much like real roots.

The Abutment

The abutment is the part of the dental implants that is actually used to attach the prosthetic restoration to the implant. Once the implant has completely healed, a protective cap is removed, allowing the abutment to be permanently attached.

The Restoration

After the abutment is placed, the prosthetic restoration(s) can be as well. Typically for the replacement of single teeth, dental crowns are used. However, in situations where several, most or all of a patient’s teeth need to be restored, dental bridges, partials, and even full dentures may be used.
